New Transmission Needed for the Clean Energy Transition

New York State is leading the nation in comprehensively addressing climate change, specifically by increasing the availability of clean energy resources such as wind, hydro and solar to replace fossil fuel facilities as directed by the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. This will improve air quality in the New York Metropolitan area, and provide resources to power New Yorkers’ increasing need for electricity now and into the future.

But the clean energy is just part of what’s needed. That energy must be linked into our electric delivery system and carried throughout the NYC region through the build out of the electric transmission grid. The current grid cannot accommodate this new generation, which is why the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking proposals from electric transmission developers to build this new grid system.
